Second Straight Year MP2 is Recognized as One of the Fastest Growing Aggie-Owned or Managed Companies in the World
HOUSTON (November 12, 2015) – Texas A&M University recognized The Woodlands, Texas-based MP2 Energy as a member of the 2015 Aggie 100 for the second straight year. The award honors the fastest-growing companies in the world, owned or operated by graduates of Texas A&M University, as determined by annual growth rate. MP2 Energy ranked 59th with a compound annual growth rate of 46.75 percent from 2012 through 2014. This follows their 2014 win with a compound annual growth rate of 46.90 percent from 2011 through 2013. The Aggie 100, a program created by the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship in Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School, honors graduates from across disciplines for their entrepreneurial endeavors and successes as business leaders.
Founded in 2009, MP2 Energy has strong roots at Texas A&M with three of its partners all having earned their undergraduate degrees from the university. Founder and CEO Jeff Starcher earned his degree in 1985, and COO Mark Siismets and Senior Vice President Terry Dodson both graduated in the class of 1987. MP2 has experienced significant growth in the last few years primarily because of its business model, unique among energy companies, in which it manages power plants, provides retail energy to commercial and industrial clients, and also works with those clients to manage and reduce consumption through demand response and distributed generation to hedge clients’ exposure to volatile retail power prices. In 2015, MP2 entered the residential market when it launched its solar net metering program for homeowners in Texas.
“We are honored to be recognized on the 2015 Aggie 100 list for the second year in a row,” said Jeff Starcher, Chairman and CEO of MP2 Energy. “We are thrilled with the growth we’ve experienced each year since our founding in 2009, and aim to continue innovating in all aspects of the power market.”
The 100 Aggie-owned or Aggie-led businesses with the highest annual revenue growth were recognized on Friday, October 23, 2015, at a formal luncheon in the Zone Club at Texas A&M University’s football stadium, Kyle Field. More than 700 honorees, families, employees, faculty, administrators and current student entrepreneurs were in attendance to celebrate their success.
“As we enter our second decade honoring business excellence with the 11th Annual Aggie 100, we reflect on all the Aggie businesses that came before and look forward to the future success of Aggie entrepreneurs to come. From agriculture to technology and everything in between, this year’s list signifies that, no matter your background, the Aggie entrepreneurial spirit is alive and thriving,” said Dr. Richard H. Lester, executive director of the Mays Business School’s Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship. “Our sense of entrepreneurial pride swells each year, as we recognize how successful businesses can become by keeping the Aggie Code of Honor at the heart of everything they do.”
